Chelsea / Meat Packing /
Greenwich Village /
West
Village
We’ll walk past brownstones and a famous hotel, a former
home to Mark Twain, O.Henry, Arthur Miller, Eugene O’Neill,
and other writers and artists. We’ll also visit a
Theological Seminary’s beautiful courtyard, and see the art
galleries of the West 20’s.
Heading south we’ll come upon a market that was the former
home of Nabisco and now houses food and bakery wholesalers.
The goodies are available for purchase.
We’ll visit shops with discount designer clothing in
charming Chelsea.
Further south is the Meat Packing District. In the early
hours it’s a bustling center as meat is packed and shipped
throughout the city. Buildings that once housed wholesalers
are now some of the trendiest and most expensive shops in
the city. At night the energy is from restaurants and clubs
that fill the cobblestone streets.
Continuing on to the West Village we visit one of the most
charming New York brownstone neighborhoods, passing a home
that may date back to the 18th century. For Sex
and The City fans we can pass the home of Carrie.
On
our walk we’ll visit shops, food establishments, and
markets; then pass homes of many famous people such as Edna
Vincent Millay, Mark Twain, and Emma Lazarus.
No
visit to this area of New York would be complete without
visiting the hub of the West Village - Washington Square
Park.
