East Village

This area, originally Peter Stuyvesant’s farmland, has been transformed throughout the years.  It too, like the Lower East Side, was teeming with immigrants.  It was home to the hippies in the 1960’s and 70’s, and we’ll see the effects of gentrification over the recent years.

  • A transformed neighborhood visit from ethnic enclave to hip shops, restaurants, and nightlife

  • Second oldest church after St. Paul’s Chapel

  • Former area of Yiddish Theater

  • Russian Turkish Bath House – only one of its kind remaining in Manhattan

  • A wonderful Pasticceria – excellent Italian pastries

  • Tompkins Square Park – hub of the East Village
